It is chiefly done to facilitate surgery. No surgery can happen without anaesthesia. 50-60 % of Pediatric anaesthesia is to facilitate surgery. It is also given for investigations like MRI scan, CT scan, and even procedures like lumbar puncture, bone marrow aspiration in general.
Therefore 60-70% is for surgery and 20-30% is for imaging.
2. Many parents ask, " Why do children need anaesthesia?" Do kids need anaesthesia for an MRI scan?
