With 23 years of practice, he is recognized as one of the top neurorehabilitation experts, possessing qualifications, skills, and extensive experience in advanced neurological rehabilitation for various conditions. He is skilled, and experienced in advanced neurological rehabilitation of stroke, head injury, Spinal cord injury (SCI), Hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), Cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, Guillen Barrie syndrome (GBS), Spasticity and other neurological rehabilitation. His expertise extends to evaluating and treating orthopaedic, musculoskeletal, and neurological pain and rehabilitation. Dr. Maheswarappa is also qualified to assess sports-related injuries affecting ligaments, muscles, joints, and the spine.
He pioneered India's first comprehensive Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. After successfully leading this department for a decade, he transitioned to Sakra World Hospital in Bangalore, a Japanese joint venture between Toyota Tshusho and Secom.

Dr. Maheswarappa BM's educational journey began with his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. He then pursued his MD in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, complemented by sports medicine training from the Sports Authority of India, New Delhi.
His commitment to comprehensive patient care led him to undergo two years of intensive surgical training at the Balaji Institute of Surgery Research and Rehabilitation for Disabled (BIRRD) in Tirupati. This training focused on managing long-term medical complications in patients with orthopaedic and neurological disorders.
Driven by a deep interest in addressing the challenges faced by patients with neurological disorders, Dr. Maheswarappa completed a three-year (3-year) Senior Residency Program in neurological rehabilitation at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS).
At Sakra World Hospital, Dr. Maheswarappa founded the advanced rehabilitation center known as the Sakra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences. He continues to head this institute, furthering his mission to provide cutting-edge rehabilitation services to patients.
