Dr. Lakshmi's expertise as an ophthalmic plastic surgeon is recognized internationally. With 29+ years of experience in the field, she is a pioneer of endoscopic lacrimal surgery in India. Patients come to Bangalore for her care from all over the world. Most recently she held the esteemed position of President of the Oculoplastic Association of India (OPAI).
Over the past two decades, Dr. Lakshmi has received many invitations to present papers and conduct instruction courses at premiere ophthalmic conferences all across the world. She received the 2011 AIOS-APOS Santosh Honavar Award for best paper in Lacrimal, the 2015 AIOS Sujatha Savithri Rao Award for best paper in Orbit & Oculoplasty, and the prestigious FAICO from AIOS.
Dr. Lakshmi was invited to serve as a Visiting Scholar at the famed Chinese University of Hong Kong. During this tenure, she trained doctors in Hong Kong and China and she often traveled to provide surgical care to patients in hospitals across locations in mainland China as well.
Dr. Lakshmi is a leader and teacher. She uses state-of-the-art techniques and knowledge to care for her patients. She has trained more than 30 fellows in India and abroad in the field of Oculoplasty. She is also a reviewer for many Ophthalmology Journals and a Sub-specialty Society Representative for the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology (IJO).
A graduate of the prestigious Stanley Medical College, Dr. Lakshmi obtained her specialization in Opthalmology from the internationally renowned Sankara Nethralaya where she went on to serve as head of the Department of Orbit and Oculoplasty for 15 years. She later served as a consultant at the esteemed Manipal Hospital for 14 years. She was instrumental in starting the Orbit and Oculoplasty Services at both these hospitals. She also served as a visiting consultant at the Sankara Eye Hospital.
