Dr. Shabnam Roohi is a Director - Laboratory Medicine at the Sakra World hospital with more than 20 years of experience in her field. Her areas of clinical expertise include the diagnosis of haematological disorders. Dr. Roohi serves as the Head of the Department of laboratory medicine and directs the Division of Haematology and Clinical Pathology. She also plays an important role in managing the transfusion medicine services of the hospital.

She began her career as a pathologist at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, and went on to become the laboratory director at Apollo Hospitals Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore. She has been with Sakra World Hospital from its inception and has established the laboratory as per international standards. With her dedication and perseverance, she has achieved NABL accreditation for all tests done in the laboratory making Sakra the first hospital in India to get NABL accreditation within one year of its establishment.
Dr. Roohi is one of the leaders in applying lean and six sigma quality tools in assuring the quality of laboratory reports. She has published numerous articles documenting the importance of quality assurance in accurate diagnosis. She has been a leader in standardizing the practice of laboratory medicine by implementing international standards to establish good laboratory practice. As a core member of the hospital quality team, she also plays a significant role in assuring the quality of the hospital.

She has mentored future leaders in laboratory medicine as a guide for postgraduate students in pathology and conducted numerous academic sessions and workshops in the field of haematopathology, quality assurance, international standards, ethics, professional behaviour, and soft skills.

Her passion for quality has led her to be an empanelled assessor for the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Medical Laboratories (NABL). As an assessor, she has contributed to the establishment and continual improvement of several laboratories across the country.

Dr. Roohi is a presiding officer of the hospital’s internal complaints committee, a member of the scientific committee, ethics committee, and various other internal committees of the hospital.

She received her MBBS degree from the University of Mysore. She earned her MD in pathology from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education and MBA in Hospital administration from Sikkim Manipal University.
