CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)

CABG surgeries are open-heart surgeries that are most commonly performed surgical procedures to improve the blood flow to the heart. This surgery is usually recommended for patients with blockages of heart arteries. In this surgical procedure, a healthy artery or vein from the body is grafted to the blocked coronary artery which bypasses the blocked portion of the coronary artery to create a new path for blood oxygen-rich blood to flow to the heart muscle. Usually, the bypass graft for CABG can be a vein from the leg or an inner chest wall artery.
Other treatment option for coronary disease is Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), also known as Coronary angioplasty.

Coronary angioplasty is a non-surgical procedure in which a balloon is used to widen blocked or narrowed arteries. At Sakra, we have a team of dedicated and highly-experienced cardiac surgeons in Bangalore.

Heart valve surgery is a specialized surgery that is performed to treat heart valve disease that requires the repair or replace a valve in the heart that is not functioning properly. It is also called valvular heart disease.
Normally, heart valves control the flow of blood by making it move in unidirectional through the heart and the body. If the valve is not functioning properly, then the flow of blood and the network of blood vessels that carry oxygen throughout the body are affected.

Heart valve surgery is a major open-heart surgery that is performed through the breastbone into the chest. At Sakra, we have a highly-experienced cardiac and vascular surgeon in Bangalore to treat heart valve disease with advanced technology.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery is a procedure performed through smaller incisions using specialized surgical instruments. It is the most common surgical procedure for patients with complicated heart diseases that need heart bypass surgery, coronary artery surgery, or complex aorta surgery.

At Sakra, our cardiac surgeons use minimally invasive techniques to treat complex cardiac conditions. OZAKI

OZAKI is a heart procedure in which the heart tissue of the patient is used to reconstruct a damaged aortic valve, instead of replacing it completely with a prosthetic implant.

OZAKI is a minimally invasive technique that is a tailored replacement of each individual valvular leaflet with treated autologous pericardial patches which looks similar to the normal aortic valve.

The function of the aortic valve is to regulate the flow of blood from the heart to the rest of the body. When the aortic valve is not functioning properly due to various conditions like aortic stenosis, aortic valve regurgitation, and a congenital heart defect, then surgery is usually required to replace it and restore the normal function of the aortic valve.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery also known as MICS is an advanced heart surgery performed through small incisions in the right side of your chest. For individuals considering this innovative approach to cardiac surgery, they can explore the expertise and facilities offered at Sakra World Hospital the best cardiothoracic surgery hospital in Bangalore.
.

2. What are the advantages of MICS?

  • Faster return to daily activities
  • Lesser pain
  • Lesser chance of infection
  • Less need for antibiotics
  • Less need for blood transfusion

3. How is MICS different from Traditional heart surgery?

In traditional heart surgery, the chest is surgically opened through many incisions to correct the problems in the heart muscle, Arteries, Valves, and other related structures. In Traditional heart surgery, it takes 8 to 10 weeks to get back to normal activities when compared to MICS which takes 2 to 3 weeks.

4. If you had heart surgery earlier, does it affect my changes in MICS?

Yes, it is possible to have Minimally invasive cardiac surgery for the second time too. Based on your current health condition after the CT scan, if your condition is good then the doctor will recommend MICS.

5. When do you know that you have to opt for MICS specifically?

Only 75-80% of people are fit for minimally invasive cardiac surgery, so you need to get an opinion from the doctor on whether you are the right fit for MICS or not.

6. What is the healing period after MICS?

Usually, patients are discharged from the hospital within 3 to 5 days. You can resume back to work within 10 days after surgery, also driving and swimming is possible after 2 weeks of surgery. Once you are home, you need not do dressing as scars will heal faster and it differs from children to adults.

7. For a patient whose age is 62 has undergone angioplasty 15 years ago, for a single block on the right ventricle. Now suffering from 3 blockages in the heart, which heart surgery is best suited?

If the patient is having heart problems/symptoms, we need to repeat the test to identify current symptoms, and based on it the treatment is recommended. But having angioplasty previously does not change your prospects of having MICS. In other words, you can still have MICS.

8. What are the risks of MICS?

MICS has fewer complications when compared to normal heart surgery.

9. What is the hospital stay for MICS?

After the 3rd or 4th day, the patient can go home.
